Infection of surgical devices (implants, prostheses, bone substitutes) is one of the most serious complications of modern surgery. Although these events remain rare, their consequences are severe: increased mortality, long-term effects that significantly impact quality of life, and major financial costs for the healthcare system. For example, the cost of a ventriculo-peritoneal shunt can increase sixfold in the event of an infection.This book is based on a descriptive study and a field audit conducted in 14 university operating rooms. It compares theoretical recommendations with the actual practices of healthcare professionals (surgical technicians and nurses) to identify the weak links in the prevention chain.Beyond simply presenting the findings, this book offers concrete solutions and recommendations: widespread adoption of computerized traceability, ongoing training for teams, and the implementation of a multidisciplinary approach that includes hospital hygiene.
