Bol But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings.-Malachi 4:2In 1983, I began a series called "Healing in His Wings." For many years, I saw less and less of books and articles that really addressed the needs of the heart for believers. We were becoming more knowledgeable, but I wasn't sure we were getting healed of our wounds, nor getting a greater glimpse of who God wanted us to be. Taken partly from that series, I wrote this book to address those needs. One of my favorite verses-and the reason for the title of this book-comes from Malachi 4:2. As most believers, I took the analogy to be about God through Jesus being like a big feathered wing taking us under and healing us. And, maybe that's it. But I heard someone familiar with Hebrew and Jewish customs suggest that the wings are actually referring to "edges"-the edges of the Jewish Tallit or prayer cloth that every Jewish believer wore-including Jesus-and that the "wings" were the fringes of it. Then I remembered the woman in the Bible who was so ill she literally was crawling and who said, "If I can only touch the hem of His garment I will be healed." A more accurate read would be, "If I can only touch the edge (fringes or tzitzi) of His Tallit (prayer cloth) I will be healed." Suddenly I found myself touched to the heart with the reality that just to touch the very end of His prayer cloth was enough to heal the humble heart. I pray that Healing in His Wings will bring you into a deeper walk with God, a greater sense of your purpose, and a sweeter sense of His nearness and love.
