Health and Safety Risks for Workers in the Rubber Industry: Industry

The rubber industry is fraught with numerous risks of workplace accidents, resulting in many employees in the sector suffering injuries and taking sick leave. This sector in particular suffers from a severe lack of information on occupational safety, as only PPRA and PCMSO procedures are applied, with little literature published in this field. The difficulties in risk management stem from the fact that equipment has undergone changes over time without the necessary updates to procedures. Furthermore, there is hand-crafted manufacturing equipment, which is operated without proper control, rendering risk management ineffective and contributing to unsafe conditions that increase the incidence of accidents. Identifying and analysing risks in the sector, alongside raising awareness of responsibilities, reduces risks in the workplace. The main risks are chemical in nature, as many acquired illnesses are silent, manifesting years after exposure to harmful substances that are used and which can cause occupational diseases.
