Holistic Care for Victims of Domestic Violence

All of humanity must join forces to eradicate domestic violence. Infidelity, alcohol, and irresponsibility are its main causes. Among the various forms of domestic violence, physical abuse is particularly horrific and can sometimes lead to fatal consequences, perpetrated by people who have failed in their duty to protect their partners-who have become their victims. Women often pay a heavy price. We highlight three widespread phenomena that are inextricably linked: domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, and migration. Migration exacerbates the vulnerability of partners, which is further compounded when they have neither the right nor the ability to refuse sexual intercourse or to demand the use of a condom. The consequences of these phenomena affect couples, families, and society at large. When nonviolent conflict resolution becomes the norm for everyone, perhaps then we will see the elimination of domestic violence. As for the eradication of this pandemic, preventive measures must be followed by everyone, whether or not they are infected with the virus.
