Home On The Range: Screenplay & Synopsis

Will Murdock never meant to start a family. He just wanted someone to split the chores with.Widowed and worn down from running his ranch alone, Will lets his friends talk him into the unthinkable: mail-ordering a bride out of the back of a magazine. He draws a name from a hat - Cornelia O'Connor - and within a day of meeting her at the stage station, they're married.Cornelia is everything Will hoped for. But she comes with six grown sons, and they don't all arrive at once. One by one, Curt, Emmerson, Ernest, Clyde, Rodney, and Billy Boy show up at the ranch - and Will's quiet life gets a lot more crowded, and a lot more complicated.Between feuding brothers, a runaway bride, and a neighboring land baron determined to force Will off his own range, Home on the Range is a warm, funny, unproduced Western screenplay from the personal papers of Verland T Whipple - a story about the family that finds you when you least expect it.This edition presents the original screenplay in standard reading format, followed by a full plot synopsis in the back matter.
