Homophobia In schools: relation to perceptions of and attitudes towards gender roles - an exploratory study

Schools have an educational mandate, but what about sex education on homosexuality in the curriculum? How important is sex education in this area, and what impact does keeping silent on this topic have on the younger generations? The fight against homophobia is far from over. From a legal perspective, the situation may have improved significantly in many places over the past few decades, but there are still many areas of concern, particularly in society. Terms such as sexual orientation, heteronormativity, coming out, homophobia and gender roles are therefore examined in more detail and defined here. Above all, the - often subconscious - notions of gender roles and heteronormativity influence attitudes towards gay men and lesbians. There are quite a few studies on acceptance of LGBTI* people, but what is the perspective of those directly affected? In an interview, a lesbian teacher and a gay pupil share their personal experiences of the school system.
