HOTEL BASILEA

A forbidden love. An unfinished game. A secret hidden inside a Venetian hotel. Giovanni Basilea has spent his life protecting the family hotel. When relatives in Verona expect him to secure its future through a respectable marriage, duty seems to leave him little choice. Then he meets Giuliana Fabris, the daughter of a Venetian chessmaker who dreams of studying history in Padua. As their love deepens, Giovanni discovers letters, photographs and coded chess moves hidden inside Hotel Basilea. Together, they reveal a love affair erased from both their families and a child whose existence was deliberately concealed. Set against the haunting beauty of Venice, Hotel Basilea is a story of forbidden love, inherited silence and the courage to choose one's own life. The truth is waiting. But first, someone must complete the game. With Italian ancestry A. Vittoria brings history, atmosphere and human relationships vividly to life. Hotel Basilea marks the beginning of a three-book saga about the Basilea family.
