This book is the result of a conference which took place in Uppsala in June 2004 involving practitioners, scholars and activists in the field of Human Rights mainly from Africa. It discusses the achievements of the African Commission and suggests ways of strengthening and making the commission more efficient in advancing its goals and objectives. The book particularly points at the new institutional changes on the African scene with the African Union and its many new organs and the importance for the Commission to come to grips with this in the interest of relevance and hope for human dignity in Africa.
