Hydrocarbon fraud in the city of Zinder, Niger

One of the main activities employing young people in the town of Zinder is the fraudulent sale of hydrocarbons. However, this illegal activity is becoming increasingly widespread, despite all the associated risks. All the authorities concerned have tried either to regularize the situation, or to formally prohibit this activity, which does not benefit the country's economy, but their efforts have been in vain. State control strategies are ineffective, or simply result in complicity on the part of road agents and/or law enforcement officers. But the point is clear: there is a distrust of the political authorities in the face of the prohibition of fraud, which can be sociologically described as a social fact. In the meantime, selling hydrocarbons has become something of a norm among young people, contributing to the development of illicit practices.
