The novel interweaves stories of women, who really existed, from different eras, united by painful life experiences as well as particular strength of character: Ursula, accused of witchery and subjected to fierce interrogations, Grace, young mother and prostitute, victim of superstitions and domestic violence, Anna, overwhelmed by the misery and rumors that push her to extreme decisions and Helen, medium that plays an important social role. Through confessions, visions and fragments of daily life the novel highlights how religion, power and fear can shape social and personal condemnations, which still persist today. The narrative promotes empathy and describes intense characters, historical and contemporary settings, through a chorus of female voices that transform "La Rossa", or Ursula, the thread conductor of the story, into a symbol of resistance, memory and solidarity among women who challenge stigma and violence to reclaim dignity.
