I Couldn't Surrender to Dhamma: A story told in haiku inspired verse

The retreat is a ten day course intended to teach the participants the practice of Vipassana meditation. The course adheres to strict discipline, including absolute silence-no communication whatsoever, not even eye contact. Meditation lasts roughly 11 hours, from 4:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. There are two meals, the first at 6:30 a.m. and the last at 11:00 a.m. then a few short breaks to walk outside, finished off with an hour-long prerecorded talk each night. No books, no devices, no music, and no pens or paper. Ten days of breathing and focusing your mind while surrounded by about one hundred and twenty other people you aren't even allowed to look at. Yes, there was fine print and I read all of it. I thought I was ready so I signed the paperwork and took the vows. I was nowhere near ready.
