Upon receiving some old family scrapbooks, the author discovers new information about his mother's life and her last days. She had tragically died when he was a small child, and much from these early years, including knowledge of his mother, was erased or obscured from him growing up. Over a period of months, he begins getting to know her and to grieve her death, poring over documents, pictures, and letters, and finding and interviewing those who knew her. This is an honest account of learning to grieve and accept suffering, to land in a place of hope.
