For a long time, socio-economic issues have been at the heart of non-governmental organisations' concerns. Yet we live in an age in which information and knowledge have become the raw materials of the economy. The role of information science is to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and track its progress through the knowledge chain: its creation, collection, analysis, processing, storage, retrieval and dissemination to users. This is what this study seeks to highlight, documenting the experience that enabled the action research institution based in Senegal, the GEEP (Group for the Study and Teaching of Population), to be equipped with a documentary information system. In addition to the professional tools it offers, the study sets out the considerations made regarding the potential integration of Web 2.0-oriented concepts in order to provide an attractive service in line with the latest technological developments. This book is a reference for professionals in Information and Library Science who wish to set up a library or an archives service within an institution.
