Today, economic development is one of the central challenges of public policy in developing countries. Despite the diversity and wealth of their natural resources, the youthfulness of their populations and the gradual opening up of their economies to international trade, many of these countries continue to face persistent structural difficulties: low productivity, dependence on primary exports, infrastructure deficits, macroeconomic instability and weak governance. These challenges call for in-depth reflection on the relevance and effectiveness of the economic models adopted to date. This work is aimed primarily at students and researchers in economics and political science, public decision-makers, and development actors wishing to deepen their understanding of the mechanisms of economic transformation in developing countries. It is intended both as a tool for academic reflection and as strategic support for the development of appropriate public policies.
