This book examines the key factors involved in the integration of pupils with autism spectrum disorder into mainstream classes. Based on five different clusters, it became apparent that factors such as the anticipated additional workload for teachers, the motivation of all those involved, fellow pupils, a consistent key support figure and effective collaboration with parents are of central importance for successful integration at school. Merely being aware of these factors is not enough to ensure that pupils with an autism spectrum disorder are successfully integrated. It requires many individual steps, mutual consultation amongst all those involved and, above all, the willingness of the pupils themselves for school integration to succeed.
