India and the Neighbourhood: Case Studies

This book emphasises that India’s capacity to succeed in emerging as a major global player is crucially dependent on its regional dynamics. It focuses on South Asia, India’s immediate neighbourhood trying to analyse the broader dimensions of India’s regional diplomacy and concludes that India’s neighbourhood policy has to develop a more institutional approach towards South Asia to tackle some of these gaps as it tries to integrate South Asia specific diplomacy within its extended neighbourhood policy. It examines India’s evolving relations with one of its key Himalayan neighbour, Bhutan and the increasing influence of China in the country; it also examines Indian diplomacy vis a vis Afghanistan analysing the challenges confronting India’s policy-making in Afghanistan in the context of the fresh challenges raised since the 2nd Taliban takeover within the country in 2021.
