INSECURITY and the TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY in Rivers STATE: An analysis of role functions FERMA State

This book is an examination of the impact of insecurity on the growth and development of the transport industry in Rivers State. Transportation plays an irreplaceable role in the social sphere. It enables people to communicate, meet each other and exchange ideas. Since time immemorial, transport and various patterns of using transportation systems have represented a certain status in the social hierarchy. The book revealed that the nefarious activities of hoodlums result in low revenues and patronage for the transport companies and the resultant effect is that many of them are folding up with the concomitant job losses. This ugly state of affairs occasioned by the deplorable state of the roads also discourage local and foreign investors from showing interest in the state's transport sector, and this weighs down the economy and complicates the unemployment situation in the state. Based on the foregoing, the study recommended that drastic measures be taken to reposition the air, road, rail and water transportation sectors to effectively mitigate insecurity in the transport industry in Rivers State.
