Inventory of Culicidae in the Djemorah Biskra Region

Culicidae are Nematocera Diptera Mecoptera insects and are considered vectors of pathogenic organisms. In recent years, mosquitoes have become widespread in arid and semi-arid pre-Saharan regions. In the first part of this study, we compiled a faunal inventory of mosquitoes found in the Djemorah region (Biskra). Our results show that the composition of the sampled Culicidae population reveals the presence of two genera, Culex and Culiseta, comprising five species (Culex pipiens, Culex laticinctus, Culex deserticola, Culex hortensis, and Culiseta longiareolata). In the second part of this study, we investigated the toxicological impact of the bioinsecticide-the ethanolic extract of the plant Peganum harmala-on the larvae of Culex pipiens and Culiseta longiareolata. The tested biopesticide yielded satisfactory results and appeared to be more active against the larval stages. We determined various lethal and sublethal concentrations (LC¿¿ and LC¿¿).
