The codex of John the Deacon, written in 1272 according to the experts, contains the story and miracles of Saint Isidore the Farm Labourer and the 6 unpublished hymns that we sing on this album. It comes from the parish of Saint Andrew, a church near the saint’s house and where he was buried. It used to be kept in the Museum of the Old Cathedral of Saint Isidore and is now in the Museum of the Cathedral of Madrid. The codex is in an excellent state of preservation. The notation of the hymns could be studied thanks to the facsimile published in 1993 by the San Damaso Academy of Arts and History, of the Archbishopric of Madrid, and thanks to the photos provided by the Museum of the Cathedral of Madrid.
