Non-timber forest products (NTFPs) have been used by local communities in Cameroon since time immemorial for food, medicine, and other purposes. Forestry policies have often been presented as an obstacle to the development of the NTFP sector in Cameroon. Surveys conducted among producers, traders, administrative officials, and civil society actors show that the government is seeking to respond to local communities' desire to participate in forest resource management through decentralization, but without ensuring effective implementation.
