Jacaranda Journal 12.2 Memento Mori is a creative and literary collection of short fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and visual art with the theme of Memento Mori:The Latin phrase 'memento mori' translates simply to 'remember you must die'. Memento Mori is a radical lens we can use to view the world-revealing what matters, stripping away illusion, and urging change. A world where we recognise the significance of our temporary existence, is a world where we fight for each other's right to live and die in dignity.Memento Mori is many things. It is an invitation to remember. It is the charred remains that lay on scorched earth. It is a phrase that many of us interpret differently, as you will no doubt read in this journal. At its core, Memento Mori is an interrogation of life-of how we carry ourselves closer to our deaths from the moment our cells start to decay, and how we might take control of how our stories end.In this edition of Jacaranda Journal, we offer this reminder. We make art of our deaths and in doing so we master the art of dying. To remember that you must die is to remember that you are alive. Memento Mori is not just about death-it is about living fully in its shadow.Thank you to our contributors for allowing us to share your memento mori. Thank you to our editorial team for pouring your blood, sweat, and souls into this edition. To our readers, we hope these works stir something inside you.Death defines us, and in this edition of Jacaranda Journal, we endeavour to define death.
