They knock on ten thousand doors a year. They carry a Bible, speak of God's Kingdom, and name the name of Jesus. But the Jesus they preach is a created angel, his cross a counterweight, his resurrection a vanished body, his worship forbidden. Volume Three of The Rule of Faith puts the Watchtower on trial before the Word of God. It traces the movement to one man, Charles Taze Russell, and shows that every distinctive doctrine the Witnesses hold is his, unchanged. It weighs the organization by the two tests Scripture gives: the test of the prophet, which its own failed dates condemn, and the test of the Christ, which it fails at every point at once. The verdict is not delivered in anger but from the text, doctrine by doctrine, in the movement's own words. And it ends where it must: at the door, with the Christ the Witness has never been shown, and the invitation still open. Come to me.
