In small-town America in the 1950s and 1960s, friendly communities thrive. Neighbors know what is expected to maintain a reputation for being virtuous in the sight of God and each other. All churchgoers understand that God is a forgiving God. But people are not God, and there are secrets. Ruth Faris has always dreamed of having a perfect child to prove her perfection as a mother. From the outside, it appears her sixteen-year-old daughter, Lily, has become just that. But reality is about to collide with her dream and change everything. In an instant, Lily becomes one of the bad people that Ruth considers trashy. When Lily innocently wonders aloud to her mother one day if she is pregnant, she must deal with her mother's anger and her own internal darkness.
