Kemar's Song: I Would Do it Again - A Memoir of Brotherhood and Grace

KEMAR'S SONG: I WOULD DO IT AGAINKemar's Song is a deeply personal memoir that follows the life of Kemar K. Smith, born in Stokes Hall, St. Thomas, Jamaica, and the brother whose presence shaped Damar A. Grant's entire journey. From infancy, Kemar battled a lifelong illness that demanded constant care, vigilance, and sacrifice. Yet his life was never defined by sickness-it was defined by joy, stubborn determination, football, laughter, community, and an unforgettable spirit. As Damar migrated to the United States in search of opportunity and stability, his role as a brother expanded across borders. The memoir captures the emotional tension of living in one country while caring for someone in another-balancing work, responsibility, hope, and the constant fear of phone calls that could change everything.Through vivid storytelling and heartfelt reflection, Damar recounts their childhood in Jamaica, the challenges of migration, the weight of long-distance caregiving, and the countless moments-both painful and beautiful-that formed their unbreakable bond. Readers will meet Kemar, the child, the student, the football lover, the comedian, the survivor, and the brother whose life touched an entire community. This memoir explores themes of caregiving, family, faith, resilience, migration, and the quiet strength required to love someone through every season of life. It is a tribute to those who serve in silence, those who sacrifice without applause, and those who continue even when the journey becomes heavy.Kemar's Song is not simply a story-it is a testimony.A reminder that love is never wasted.A call to appreciate the people who stand beside us.And a declaration that some bonds are worth every sacrifice. This is the story of a brother. This is the story of a journey across two nations. This is Kemar's Song.
