Although called the English Civil Wars which ran from 1642 to 1651 this is a misnomer as the wars also included Scotland, Wales and Ireland. They are divided into three parts - the 1st Civil War from 1642 to 46, the 2nd Civil War in 1648 and the 3rd Civil War in 1651. Essentially, Worcestershire was involved in the 1st and 3rd Civil Wars. The battles described here should not be seen as just local ones. They were either linked to other military events or had a wider significance in other parts of the country. Two of them - Wigan and Stow - did not take place in Worcestershire but had a significant link to the county.
