A diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is defined as the occurrence of infection, ulceration, or tissue destruction in the foot of individuals with current or previous diabetes mellitus (DM). This condition is commonly associated with peripheral neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) affecting the lower extremities. DFU represents a major global health challenge for both patients and healthcare systems. Diabetic foot complications are among the leading causes of hospital admissions related to diabetes and account for nearly half of all lower-limb amputations worldwide. As the global incidence of diabetic foot ulcers continues to rise, the need for effective prevention and management strategies has become increasingly important. In this context, nursing professionals play a critical role in early detection, patient education, and comprehensive foot care. Strengthening nursing staff training and qualifications and enhancing their role in diabetic foot management should be considered a healthcare priority, as it significantly reduces amputation rates, prevents complications, and improves overall quality of care.
