Kodachrome

A collection of images showing how the modern world - between 1943 and 1959 - was shaped in America's image. It contains photographs of momentous historical events like the Yalta Conference, the liberation of the concentration camps, the Atomic Test programme and the beginnings of the Space Race; the dominant political figures of the era - Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin; and contemporary icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn and Joe Di Maggio.;The introduction of the kodachrome process in the late 1930s gave the world the first widely-available true colour negative film. The resulting images, with their sharpness and rich colours, completely transformed the art of photography and, thus, the way in which the world was depicted and perceived. They created an idealized, heightened, almost fantastic version of reality that changed the aspirations, dreams and outlook of modern society forever.
