Writing in Persian and Urdu, he is best known for Asrar-e-Khudi ("Secrets of the Self"). He proposed the idea of a separate Muslim state in India, which later led to the creation of Pakistan, where he is honored as the National Poet and called "Hakeem-ul-Ummah."He advocated the intellectual and spiritual revival of Islam, expressed in his 1930 lectures The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam. A member of the Punjab Legislative Council and the All-India Muslim League, his Allahabad Address helped shape the vision for a Muslim state. Pakistan was established in 1947, nine years after his death, and his birthday, November 9, is observed as a national holiday there.
