In the midst of the American War for Independence, Joachim de Niel, Count of Valencey and Prince of Adana, hunts down British ships aboard his famous red sailing vessel, La Terpischore. This famous French ship whose name strikes pure terror in the hearts of the British and pure admiration in the hearts of the Americans, is surrounded by mystery since it does not officially exist. Along with his childhood friend, Mahë, and an elite crew of sailors, some of whom are freed slaves, Prince d?Adana daringly approaches the English coast and fires his canons on King George III who must lie flat in the mud to escape the attack. Absolutely furious, the British king promises a fortune to anyone who will bring him the head of the young Frenchman. Meanwhile, a mysterious lord wearing a boor's mask, is decimating Prince d?Adana's clan. First the young captain's father is assassinated, then his fiancé dies in the cruellest of circumstances that even the tyrants of the time find distasteful. Others will follow?
