Starting from the riverside area at the northern end, historically known as Lambeth (as distinct from the much greater extent of the modern borough), the districts covered include also Vauxhall, South Lambeth, Kennington, Stockwell and Clapham. Strictly speaking, the last-mentioned of these is an odd one out, since only with the local government reorganisation of 1964 did Clapham become part of Lambeth, having always previously been in Wandsworth.
