Late Neolithic transformation processes: Technological changes and society in the Dagger period

Between 2200 and 1700 BCE, Scandinavia and Central Europe underwent profound social and environmental change. Using Nordic flint daggers as a lens, this book explores the spread of innovations in technology, agriculture, and architecture, revealing a shared transformation that reshaped societies across northern Europe. Around 2200–1700 BCE, Scandinavia and Central Europe were shaped by significant socio-environmental transformations. Between central Germany and northern Norway, Nordic flint daggers symbolise these changes—across different societies and under varying environmental conditions. For the first time, this book brings together and interprets both Central European and Scandinavian contributions on this subject. It becomes evident that a wave of innovation transformed the world: flint daggers and flint sickles, new agricultural techniques, and changes in domestic architecture all reflect a new habitus. This new way of life emerged during a period of climate change and had an impact across hundreds of kilometres, affecting an entire subcontinent.
