An intimate chamber piece at the bedside of the last great actor. When the narrator meets the fallen star in the Hollywood hills, he finds an obese paranoiac convinced he is being bugged, using his stomach as a table for bowls of Moussaka and TV monitors on which he watches endless reruns of his glory days. Exhausted and ruined by living expenses and divorces, this deposed king is no longer the sexualised, bestial actor of A Streetcar Named Desire but a survivor waiting for death, and trying to find the strength to accept it. Samuel Blumenfeld is a film critic for the newspaper Le Monde and has come into contact with many film stars.
