Nowadays, an increasing number of primary school pupils already have their own smartphone or at least a games console. Faced with the possibilities offered by digital media and modern consumer electronics, reading books - particularly for boys - can therefore easily be perceived as boring and outdated. The need to foster reading skills and a love of reading in German lessons is therefore greater than ever. This thesis aims to address precisely this issue by using three sample lessons for lower secondary school pupils to illustrate how German lessons can be designed to rekindle pupils' fascination with the medium of the book. The focus of this thesis is therefore more on practical application than on purely academic theory.
