Let's talk about the new province of Tanganyika

The city was founded on January 3, 1892, by Jacques de Dixmude and was soon besieged and attacked by Rumaliza's troops during the Independent State of the Congo's campaigns against the Arabo-Swahilis. The Albertville military post was founded on December 30, 1891, by Captain Jacques of the Independent State of Congo. It is located 15 kilometers south of the Lukuga River. Sergeant Alexis Vrithoff was killed on April 5, 1892, while defending Albertville against an attack by Arab slave traders. The outpost was besieged by the Arabs from the Kataki base from August 16, 1892, until January 1, 1893. After the Arabs left the territory, Albertville was gradually abandoned, and the name remained associated with the Mutoa military outpost north of the Lukuga River, the site of present-day Kalemie. In 1914 and 1915, Albertville served as a base for Belgian and British forces. The railroad reached Albertville. Albertville was attacked by mercenaries led by Major Mike Hoare during operations against the Simba rebellion in August 1964. In 1971, following Zairianization, Albertville changed its name to Kalemie.
