This work explores liberating encounters with Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. In the first part, six different New Testament narratives are used to demonstrate that people on the margins of society find new hope and are restored through their encounter with Jesus. Jesus lifts up those who are bowed down and despondent. He meets them on equal terms and restores new meaning to their lives. In the second part of this work, as part of the project 'Jesus lifts us up and makes us great', pupils in a second-year secondary school class are given insights from these invaluable encounters with Jesus, which can help them to manage tensions within the class community.
