A nerdy geneticist. An ancient vampiress.Answers that lead to more secrets. Is true escape possible? While visiting Romania for an academic conference, Dr. Ethan Dalton, a geneticist from New York City, doubts the local vampire legends like anything else he can't prove-until a spelunking adventure with his colleague goes wrong. Ethan is captured by the vampiress Caterina and finds himself changed in ways that shouldn't be possible. Even if he can find a way out of the ancient cave of the Carpathian vampires, true escape will require Ethan to get back to his lab and find scientific answers about what happened to him, all while holding on to who he was and hiding what he's become. But secrets prove hard to keep, especially from a persistent friend, and every discovery leads to deeper questions. When reality is stranger than legend, the price of answers may be even higher than the price of escape.
