Linguistic interference in foreign language acquisition: The case of English and French: a sociolinguistic study

This book, titled "Linguistic Interference in Foreign Language Acquisition: The Case of English and French," investigates the occurrence and impact of French (F1) linguistic interference on the acquisition and usage of English (F2) as a second language by French native speakers. The choice of this topic stems from my personal curiosity in examining how the first language (L1) influences the learning and application of a second language (L2). By exploring the specific instances of linguistic interference from French into English, this study aims to contribute to the existing body of research on second language acquisition and bilingualism. The research will focus on various aspects of linguistic interference, including phonetics, morphology, syntax, and semantics. Drawing from both theoretical perspectives and empirical data, the findings of this study could offer valuable insights for language teachers, educational institutions, and policymakers in developing effective strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of linguistic interference on English language learning for French native speakers.
