Today, many places in Hawai'i are known by their English nickname, usually given in modern times and often based on what was built there or what the place was known for. These names don't tell the full story or history of the place. The original Hawaiian name for places before western contact were so named after deep thought about the landscape, observation of the weather and natural phenomena, and consideration of the stories told about the area. Lizards, Giants, and Gods shares the original Hawaiian name for well-known places across the islands and the stories behind them. Not only will kids be fascinated by the natural connection between the name and the place, but the stories and phenomenal illustrations by local artist Kelsie Dayna will help them remember the names for the next generation, and give them a better appreciation and understanding of the islands
