Rongelap is home to an impressionistic and likeable youth named Paoa. Paoa is nurtured by his mother's love but shaken by his father's rejection and untimely demise. A most unlikely savior, young Paoa faces a violent, near fatal attack, discovers the long forgotten history of his home islands, bears witness to a trial of banishment and experiences events that threaten to take him to faraway America. As Lost Children of the Sea proceeds, it becomes evident that Paoa may be the final hope for the Rijerbal people if he can avoid the seductions of civilization.
