Lurking Beneath

Every family buries something. The Mensahs buried the truth beneath their house.Adzo Mensah is a Toronto crisis-communications strategist who makes a living separating fact from panic and controlling the next decision. After her father's death, she returns to Nsumia, Ghana, for a five-day inheritance lock-in at the family's coastal estate. Then the siblings discover the archive.Hidden beneath Mensah House is a surveillance chamber containing decades of recordings, photographs, legal files, private confessions, and evidence tied to Korkor Agbeko-the business partner who supposedly stole from the family and fled Ghana in 1998. A newly created file proves the dead patriarch is not the only person who knew how to operate the system. As the archive exposes forged land consents, family betrayals, and a buried crime, Adzo's most certain childhood memory begins to collapse. Someone inside the family has inherited more than money. He has inherited the machinery that decides what everyone else is allowed to remember. And he needs Adzo for one last act of control: a public statement that can turn murder back into doubt.Set between Toronto and Ghana's Atlantic coast, Lurking Beneath is a psychological domestic thriller about inheritance, surveillance, manipulated memory, and the dangerous difference between managing a story and telling the truth.
