A young Turkish man arrives in 1920s Berlin to learn the secrets of his family trade: soap making. However, Raif Efendi spends his time learning German, reading Russian novels, and roaming the parks, avenues, and museums, looking for something truly inspiring. One afternoon he finds what he was searching for after being engrossed by a painting, a portrait of a woman in a fur coat. One night, Raif meet the woman in the painting, Maria. From that moment on, the existence of the young Turk gains meaning, and is transformed forever.
