MAKE ROOM FOR THE PASTOR: Allowing Spiritual Leaders to Live in Truth Through Confession, Healing, and Human Honesty

MAKE ROOM FOR THE PASTOR Allowing Spiritual Leaders to Live in Truth Through Confession, Healing, and Human Honesty Pastors spend their lives helping others heal. They counsel the hurting, guide the confused, comfort the grieving, and encourage those who feel like giving up. Week after week they pour wisdom, faith, and strength into the lives of others. But one question is rarely asked: Who gives pastors room to be human? Behind the pulpit is a person who carries real burdens, real struggles, and real emotions. Yet many spiritual leaders feel they must hide those struggles because leadership often comes with an unspoken expectation of perfection. When pastors feel they cannot be honest, silence becomes their only protection. And silence can be dangerous. In Make Room for the Pastor, Dr. Jennifer L. Agard addresses one of the most overlooked realities in church life-the emotional and spiritual isolation many leaders experience. With wisdom, compassion, and biblical insight, this book explores why pastors often suffer in silence and how churches can create healthier environments where honesty, accountability, and healing can exist together. Inside this thought-provoking book you will discover: - Why many pastors feel they have no safe place to confess struggles - How unrealistic expectations can isolate spiritual leaders - The difference between accountability and condemnation - How confession can protect rather than destroy leadership - Practical ways churches can support the emotional and spiritual well-being of their pastors - Why healthy leaders create healthier churches This book is not about criticizing pastors or congregations. Instead, it invites the church into an honest conversation about grace, responsibility, and the humanity of those who lead. Because when pastors are given room to live in truth rather than silence, the entire body of Christ becomes stronger. Healthy shepherds help create healthy flocks.
