The book Mama Said follows an elementary school-aged girl and her friends around as they celebrate her birthday for the weekend.Our main character comes from a Foundational Black American family. Her parents take pride in cultural inclusivity as well as their indigenous American roots.The cover sets the tone for the book with the mother abruptly confiscating every tablet, with her husband in support of her playful shenanigans.Instead of condoning the brain drain of chargeable devices, the mother takes the children on excursions to the park for double-dutch rope and afternoon tea.All the while, our main character boasts of her mother, allowing her unwavering self-confidence and traditions to rub off on her peers.Mama Said touches on themes of conflict resolution and empowered living through moral standards and ethical conduct.
