Marshal of Madrid [DVD] ,

This 100 minute feature is actually two episodes from the CBS TV series "Cade's County", which ran for 24 episodes in the 1971-72 season. Glenn Ford plays Sam Cade the sheriff of the fictional Madrid County. The state in which it was located is never mentioned, but the second episode leaves no doubt it is situated on the Mexican border. Sam Cade is supported by his chief deputy J.J. Jackson, played by the well known character actor Edgar Buchanan, memorable as the drunken judge in the magnificent western "Ride the High Country", and not Peter Ustinov as has already amusingly been pointed out. Although the two are not dissimilar I am not sure Ustinov would have pulled off the accent as well as Buchanan.n the first episode the singer Bobby Darin plays a man suffering from some sort of schizoid personality disorder. Unfortunately he believes himself to be Billy the Kid and comes back looking for revenge on Pat Garrett whom he believes is Ford. This time he even has a bazooka at his disposal which Billy definitely didn't have! The Lincoln County war would have been an even livelier affair if he had! Darin gets to do a little warbling which is perhaps the highlight of the rather nonsensical goings on. The beautiful Argentinian actress Linda Cristal, best remembered as Victoria from "The High Chapparal" TV series, is wasted as Darin's former love. The second episode is a big improvement, and covers the now very topical subject of illegal immigration from Mexico and drugs running. This time veteran Mexican character actor Rodolfo Acosta, who also appeared in High Chapparal as Vaquero, gives the main support to Ford. Buchanan looked as though he was struggling to get about and was office bound in this episode. He did look a tad too old to still be employed as an officer of the law. No Starsky and Hutch style running around for him, at least not unless they had a defibrillator handy. Not sure they were invented then!No subtitles.
