Measures in educational and career guidance for those affected by burnout: Upper Austria region

Nowadays, social changes mean that educational and career guidance counsellors face highly complex demands. Traditional educational and career guidance - for example, regarding career choice, career reorientation, apprenticeships or school education - is no longer sufficient. Counsellors are increasingly confronted with personal, family, social and work-related issues. Burnout has become increasingly prevalent not only in the professional world but also, evidently, in people's private lives. In this Master's thesis, the author focuses primarily on measures currently being applied to those affected within educational and career guidance services in the Upper Austria region. The main body of the thesis explains topics such as stress in the workplace, the consequences of stress and burnout for those affected and for companies, occupational sectors frequently affected, the link between burnout and counselling, as well as the focus and objectives of this work; the author also describes the research methodology in more detail. The findings are interpreted, summarised and incorporated at the end of the thesis into a catalogue of measures for counsellors.
