This study illustrates the contributions of traditional knowledge and wisdom to the sustainable use and conservation of natural resources. It proposes a typology of customary practices in natural resource management in Gnéhiri. Adopting a qualitative approach, the resulting data collection is based on literature review, for the formulation of the research question and the theoretical conceptualization of this study; direct observation, to understand the realities faced by local communities in the customary management of natural resources; and semi-structured interviews with customary authorities, to gather more in-depth information from the respondents. It appears that the indigenous communities of Gnéhiri have traditionally established cultural practices related to respect for natural resources and their rational management. These customary practices in this area are based, on the one hand, on general prohibitions and specific totems in force within the extended families. On the other hand, they are based on the establishment of traditional bodies responsible for management and the enforcement of sanctions.
