Mediterranean Medicinal Plants: Pharmacology of Cistus and Cytisus: Molecular Screening Pharmacological Properties spp. Cytisus villosus

Within the rich and diverse ecosystems of Morocco, certain medicinal plants occupy a prominent place due to their long-standing use in traditional medicine and their significant therapeutic potential. Among these, Cistus albidus, Cistus laurifolius, and Cytisus villosus stand out for the richness of their bioactive metabolites and the growing scientific interest they attract.This book provides a comprehensive and critical synthesis of the available bibliographic data related to these three plant species, with particular emphasis on their phytochemical composition and major pharmacological activities. The biological mechanisms underlying their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and analgesic effects are examined considering recent scientific findings, while methodological limitations and future research perspectives are also discussed.Beyond a descriptive approach, this work aims to highlight the potential of these plants for the development of novel therapeutic products and innovative industrial applications, in line with the requirements of modern pharmacology and safety standards.
