In wireless communication, various collision-avoidance Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols are available to reduce contention, but none have been standardized to meet the requirements of IoT. There is a need for a well-defined MAC protocol to optimize channel access. Therefore, this book first outlines the system model of IoT-based WBANs based on a comprehensive review of the reported literature. Following that, the types of collisions are discussed. Further, this book provides a comprehensive study of ALOHA, CSMA, CSMA/CA, and hybrid MAC protocols, the issues in MAC protocols, and their state-of-the-art solutions to overcome collisions and achieve higher throughput.
