Memoirs Of A Taxi-Man

This story is about a cab driver who braves the elements and dangers of the city life in order to transport his passengers to their destination. Whenever he leave home , there is no guarantee that he will return. He lives a fascinating life independent of having a boss or instructions of how he should perform his job. He is exposed to many women and much money, yet danger lurks at almost every corner. He is robbed more than once and critically injured almost to the point of death. Living the life of a taxi-man brings joy and sorrow to Lew when all that he is searching for is the ability to support his family, be of service to the public, and live a good life. There are times when he sets the standard for how a taxi-man should conduct himself. In-spite of how he is exposed to the many dangers in the streets, it is the deadly disease of cancer that is finally his down-fall. Lewis Smith displays a tolerance for coping with the demands of the dangers that await him and the physical challenges that he must contend with each and every day. Finally with the challenge being met, cancer is victorious. Lewis Smith has lived a full and rewarding life but there is one challenge he cannot defeat, 'Death'. He fought a brave and determined fight but in the end he could not win. He died with his family mourning him and remembering how it used to be.
