Misunderstood

I am Santino Pani. In 55 years I have done everything, from bartender to door-to-door salesman, to caregiver, traveling and living abroad for 20 years, where I worked as a photojournalist for 10 years. In Misunderstood you will find a shocking story, where I lay bare and raw the malaise of Italy.Returned to Italy, penniless and homeless, I find myself starting all over again from scratch, looking for a job and a home. Where have my long experiences led me? But really, who am I?Misunderstood retraces the steps of these recent years of mine that I am still walking through, in a continuous search for myself. As I write, life evolves, roads and horizons change, and perhaps even my way of thinking and point of view take on new forms.In misunderstood, I talk about these past 6 years that I am still living; I talk about COVID, and Brexit, which gave me no alternative but to leave the United Kingdom; I talk about my experiences as a bartender, the campsite where I worked, and the hostels where I have lived. In fact, for 6 years, I have been living by moving from one hostel to another, waiting to find a home; I also talk about bullying and sexism, my work as a door-to-door electricity and gas salesman for a company to say the least questionable, which, in its Milan office, was even the subject of an investigation on the TV show Le Iene.I then continue with my last two experiences as a caregiver for two disabled men, a 70-year-old with Down syndrome, and a 65-year-old epileptic. Strangely enough, the problems were not created by the disabled individuals, but by their family members, and-in the last case-by a fellow caregiver who asked me to substitute for him because he was sick himself."
